The carpet will not only allow the kids their own space during whole group carpet time, but will also give them a comfortable spot to read and learn on their own. My students are allowed to sit wherever they would like to complete independent work. Many kids would feel more comfortable sitting/lying on the carpet to work on computers, read a book, complete a learning game, or work on a skill paper. The carpet will also be utilized for learning games. I will be able to put numbers, math problems, sight words, vocabulary words, etc. on a square and play games with the class or with a small group. They can throw beanbags and read the square it lands on. We will be able to incorporate movement into our learning. My firsties will also have their own space, which we know can be very important to making people feel comfortable and happy.
