All of my students are encouraged to choose books to interact with at free time! We also use them in individual and group activities. My little ones are thrilled when given the opportunity to hold and manipulate their favorite book! My students are always more engaged and attentive when they can use several of their senses to explore in a "hands on" manner. Having multiple copies of the books will allow each child to hold their own, turn it right side up, turn the pages one at a time and "make a connection" with the story being read in Big Book format! Both of our favorite stories are read and sung along with videos on YouTube. That adds a technology component to our lessons! The videos are frequently paused, so my students can answer questions about the books and relate experiences. Some of our best conversations are about "Brown Bear" and the other animals, or the Letters falling out of the coconut tree.
