The kindergarteners come to my class for ESL services at the end of the day. It is not an ideal time to get quality work out of such young students, but it can't be helped. At this time, the kindergarteners are spent. They've been working for hours and sitting in chairs for most of the day, not being able to move around. I do Brain Breaks with them as often as possible, but too much will cut into our instructional time. Having the choice of different seating arrangements has been proven to help students control their bodies, thus allowing their minds to focus and energy be used on participating. I have seen this technique used with several of the students that I pull out into my small instruction classroom, but I do not own the equipment to replicate the set up. I am looking to start gathering different options so all of the students can benefit from Flexible Seating.
