I am moving away from individual student desks and chairs, and moving towards tables and a variety of seating option for students to work more effectively. Tables allow students to collaborate and work on individual or group projects in a more organized and cooperative manner. I have added stools, and bounce bands for chair legs to my classroom to start the year. This is allowing students who find the traditional plastic chairs with backs to not be their best option to work during class time and be on-task and not disruptive. A variety of sensible seating choices gives my students the opportunity to move slightly without distracting themselves or others, or to feel less restricted, allowing them to be more attentive to the task at hand.
