My students are in various stages of language development. Creating a classroom library that includes books and magazines that my students can relate to will encourage them to become readers. In order to support my newcomers, It is essential to include vocabulary games to motivate them to experiment with language in a less threatening environment. The books that my students and I have carefully selected are part of our mystery unit. The vocabulary/writing cubes will serve as scaffolding supports during our small group activities for newcomers and emergent Ells. The flexible seating will help students who have difficulty seating on a regular chair for more than 6 hours per day.
