Second grade is a very crucial year. Students are still learning how to read, building their reading stamina, and transitioning into chapter books. They are being exposed to a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts. The magic of reading starts to happen! Students really become independent readers, however, they tend to shy away from informational text because they don't know how to approach them. These materials will help me teach them about text features, and the 'hows' and 'whys' of reading nonfiction. I want my students to love nonfiction as much as I do! Plus we need book bins to store them all in.
