I am always looking for ways to connect the projects we do in my computer class with real world applications. We use several different websites to practice coding in a virtual environment, but often students don't see how the code we write in class applies to the world outside of the classroom. I want to use these drones in both my classroom and in an after-school club to help students make that connection A set of drones for my students would motivate them to practice what we are learning in a hand-on and engaging way and, hopefully, inspire some of them to pursue a career in a related field. Students will learn how to code the drones to fly autonomously through obstacles and manually using a controller. We will practice problem solving skills and look at how drones are used every day in fields like agriculture, cinematography, and logistics. With training and opportunity, students will leave my class with insight into several different STEM related occupations. They will see how the code they write is not some abstract and useless concept.
