I currently work in a Title I school in the special education department as diagnostician. I work with a diverse group of students who are referred for special education services because of academic difficulties. I would like to purchase items that will help students understand language and overcome reading difficulties such as dyslexia. I would like to provide items like an electronic translator and a text to speech pen to students who are struggling with reading and language comprehension. I would also like to have resources to help provide interventions to the most reluctant and unmotivated learners. Students who come to see me are usually frustrated and have given up on themselves. They tend to become behavior problems because they want to avoid being embarrassed in the classroom. I would like to provide them with lessons designed to incorporate assistive technology so that I can spark some sort of hope within them. I feel that if I can provide an accommodation to help them along, they will regain confidence in themselves and motivate them to take ownership of their learning with the use of technology.
