In the counseling center, we spend a great amount of time on the floor, where we are grounded and equal. This is the place where we lay out our vulnerabilities and make connections. We work on building social emotional skills as well as resolving conflict. This is a wonderfully interactive time where the students share their thoughts and feelings, and I have the opportunity to facilitate their development. This colorful, culturally sensitive carpet will give students a comfortable space to relax, share and grow. It will provide a little slice of home, a place to land and rest in the midst of busy academic tasks and stressful social interactions. A soft, new carpet will bring our students the feelings of comfort and care they need to know they are loved.
