These books, chosen by the students, will increase their love of reading. As studies show, first and second grade are crucial in a child's reading development. They decide whether or not they are "readers" by around 9 years old. My goal is to create an environment that promotes the love of reading and teaches every student to embrace books in a way that extends beyond the classroom. Having books that interest students is crucial in promoting lifelong readers! The suggested donations give the highly capable readers something to enjoy to maintain their reading skills. It will also give the struggling readers books that they feel successful in reading. The students' lap desks allow for students to feel comfortable reading around the room. In second grade, many students still use their finger to track their reading, having a place to rest the book allows them to have better access to good fit books that will continue to challenge them.
