Graphic novels are proven to be books that help out students who are labeled as struggling readers. In my reading class, I have multiple students who are struggling with second language acquisition, and graphic novels are their go-to when it comes time for their independent reading. While students are preparing for the day, they can dive into their graphic novels and truly escape to a different universe, unfazed by the fact that they are reading several grade levels lower than the one they are currently enrolled in. These graphic novels will help my students become more confident in their reading abilities, and grow a love for the skill they will use for the rest of their lives. Students are proven to be better readers when they are interested in what they are reading. When books capture their attention, and keep them entertained from start to finish, students foster an eagerness to read the next book they can get their hands on. By receiving these graphic novels, my students will place themselves on the fast track towards literacy success!
