I started using art with students who had difficulty expressing their emotions calmly and non aggressively. The students utilized art to help calm themselves, gather their thoughts, and express their emotions and trauma. By incorporating art into their lives, the students started to understand themselves better and were able to increase their ability to engage positively with other students and adults. I want to ensure that all the students who want to create art have that opportunity. I want as many students to be able to express themselves through drawing, painting, and coloring. These materials will provide a therapeutic experience for children to work through issues that cannot always be addressed in the classroom while also introducing them to different materials, different styles of art, artists of past and present, and how to utilize art as a way of expression.
