I am asking for your help in assembling a library of mentor texts to use in conjunction with the “Readers With Character” social skills curriculum. This library would enable me to connect literacy with social and emotional learning in my individual and small group social skills lessons. The mentor texts would each focus on a specific social skill and would connect to other activities to help students connect to the skill at hand. The texts are engaging and relatable, putting my students into the hearts and minds of the characters to experience their challenges and feel their emotions. The characters in the stories serve as models for what acceptable behavior looks like/doesn’t look like and the stories would spark thoughtful discussion in a safe, supportive environment. The lifelong skills my students can cultivate will help them be successful in school and in life.
