We use laptops to enhance and extend the "typical" Living Environment curriculum. For example, when we teach evolution, we include a shark dissection lab that allows students to observe and interact with real-life animal adaptations. How do laptops fit in? All students are expected to complete formal lab reports based on their observations from the dissection. Not only is this an incredible, authentic lab experience for 8th graders, but it also provides them with practice writing formal reports. Over the course of the year, students utilize laptops to code disease epidemic simulations, create activism research projects to protect endangered species, present to Columbia University researchers as genetic counselors solving a problem, and more! Having access to digital resources like Google Classroom and Google Slides has become integral to our practice and our students' learning. Your generous donation would go towards outfitting my classroom with seven additional Chromebooks so that I can extend research and project time to more students. Thank you so much for your time and consideration!
