I am a first-year music teacher of both band and choir in a small, rural school district. We are fortunate to have three beautiful, sound-isolated practice rooms for students to use. In order to make the most of these rooms and to hold students accountable for learning their music, I would like to create a small studio where students can record themselves by using an iPad mounted to a microphone tablet stand that we already own. Recording is a great way for students to review and reflect on their own practice habits, and a convenient way for me to hear them play individually without using class time. My high school students have access to school-supplied laptops, but my nearly 200 middle school students aren't able to take that technology home to use for recording playing assignments or practice sessions. By making an iPad available to use in a practice room, each student can have access to the technology in order to improve their performance and be the best young musician they can be!
