Many of my students enter our classroom about 45 minutes before our academic day begins. I teach at a charter school and we have students arriving to school from all over the area. Because of this, some students spend extra time in the classroom waiting for everyone to arrive and our day to begin. They are always provided with some kind of morning work that reviews a variety of skills. I want to create engaging and exciting options for students to work on as we begin our day. They would have an opportunity to choose different "Morning Tubs" that offer a variety of creative learning tools. Instead of focusing on paper and pencil tasks, these options would allow students a laid back start to their day, while they are still learning and problem solving. Sometimes students may practice spelling words with a fun game or work on their creativity and STEM by constructing with different building blocks. I feel these choices will best meet the learning needs of all my students.
