After a long day engaging and persevering in an academic setting, my students often express themselves outside of the classroom through movement and dance. Dance and history behind it builds such an important community of learners, and the sharing of culture and traditions is not an option to me, it is a necessity. The vibrant colors of the cariñosa dance, and the entrancing rhythm of the tinikling and sakuting dance will expose my students to the beauty that other cultures hold. My goal for my students is to learn about the culture that I grew up in, as I get to learn about their culture and family traditions being their teacher. Bamboo sticks and fans are used as props in the Tinikling and Sakuting dances. The fans will be used in another dance called Cariñosa. There is a rich history behind the dances that I will also be introducing my students to. The mirrors will help my students who are visual learners be able to see themselves as they progress in our choreography. Our after-school dance class last year raised an interest among the kids, and I'm hoping that we can make it happen again this year with more props for our culminating performance, and more learning aids that will help during each class session.
