My students will do a deep dive into books and materials surrounding the Holocaust, World War II, and current struggles with human rights. Students will make a plaid cover journal, similar to Anne Franks's diary, to record their reflections, insights, and questions during this two-month unit. These books will help me differentiate my instruction and reading material about the Holocaust. This year I have many students who are below the 8th-grade reading level. We will take a field trip to see the Anne Frank Memorial at the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights in Boise. All students will be able to read a book at their level about Anne while in the memorial and in our classroom.
