All of the students in my class need hands-on activities and visual supports throughout our lessons. They need to be able to engage with the content they are learning in a way that is meaningful to them. Our school focuses on vocational education and life skills, with our motto "where we learn to work and work to learn." Many of my students are currently stuck using outdated technology, but having a class iPad would help change that. It is important that my students learn to work with technology that they may actually see in the real world when they leave our school. Being able to use the technology of today is vital for their development, not only as a student but as a citizen of the world.
This iPad could be used throughout all of our lessons, from providing hands-on learning to help my non-verbal students communicate with their peers. My students need support in many of their daily activities, and using technology to provide this support will prepare them for the rest of their lives. They will be able to engage with content in a way that they cannot use outdated technology from the past.
The use of an iPad will also assist our class in being more eco-friendly. There is currently no whiteboard in my classroom, so any visuals need to be created by me on chart paper or printed out for my students to see. Using an iPad would greatly decrease paper consumption and waste for my class.
