Flexible seating options are increasing student engagement and productivity in classrooms of all grade levels and I want to bring some of these options to my students with Autism! During whole group read aloud or game activities we like to sit on the carpet since we spend the rest of our day sitting in desks and at tables around the classroom. My third, fourth, and fifth graders with Autism have bodies that are growing and are constantly in motion, and struggle with personal space and boundaries when we are doing whole group instruction. These floor chairs will help my students focus their bodies when we are sitting on the carpet by giving them a back rest and padding, as well as create a more defined boundary and space they should be in while we are reading, playing a game, or working on a project together. Less adult prompting to stay in one spot = more focus on lessons, more independence, and more learning happening!
