Young children are always in contact with dirt, whether they are inside or out. Dirt carries germs, such as bacteria and viruses, and it is crucial for them to understand the importance of washing your hands, showering regularly, and wearing clean clothes to remove the germs that cause illness from their bodies. When children miss school related to preventable illnesses, they are missing instruction, and frequent absences result in poor grades. Hygiene education provided through school instruction is key in reducing the rates of transmissible disease, and assisting in decreasing the rate of absenteeism in schools. Young students are receptive to learning and are more likely to embrace new healthier habits. They will openly share their new information and habits with their family, which may create a healthier standard for the entire family. The Bag of Germs Kit, Glo Germ Powder, and posters in this project will be used to teach my students the importance of proper hand washing, and the importance of covering your cough to prevent the spread of illness in the classroom, affecting quality education time.
