These gel drawing boards will be used to enhance skill instruction for students receiving reading intervention support. Drawing letters in gel while also hearing or speaking letter sounds creates tactile/kinesthetic learning pathways in the brain that enhance long-term recall. That is, the more that students can hear, speak, touch, and say letters and letter sounds, the more likely they are to remember that information. Reading intervention can and should be fun! The novelty of these boards also helps engage struggling or reluctant readers. The more we can incorporate play-like activities into instruction, the more students will be willing to take risks and engage in work that is challenging for them. I am excited to see students learning and having fun while using these boards.
