The Sony Alpha series is a fabulous teaching tool allowing a student to go from no knowledge of photography – leaving the camera on full auto using "spray and pray" – to full manual control with a range of scaffolded intermediate control between. The changeable lenses produce a platform for experimentation and flexibility in a compact footprint. Unlike the single lens reflex cameras based on film technology, the body format of the Sony Alpha series cameras leverages smartphone design and user interface making the camera more accessible to students for whom photography exists as a digital, rather than analog, medium. The interface and flexibility of these cameras will help to make solid photographers of each member of the yearbook staff, this year and for years to come. Additionally, the camera supports at least 8 of my state's content standards related to the yearbook class.
