The magical world of Harry Potter introduces readers to the idea of a world beyond their own. It provides hope, humor, struggle, survival, and all at the ripe age of 11 years old. It is my hope to introduce the Harry Potter series to my classroom, reignite the magic of reading, and have my students learn from the Great Albus Dumbledore that "there is light even in the darkest of times." These novels will become the focus of a unit, where students work together by “house”, chosen by the “sorting hat” to encourage each other to finish assignments for "house points." They will experience group projects, informal/formal writing assignments and partner work. The Harry Potters, while entertaining, will introduce my students to new vocabulary, strengthen their inferential thinking skills, expose them to literary devices, and activate their imaginations. Harry Potter will help my students to find the magic in reading.
