Our school is classified as 70% poverty. It is safe to say, though I would like all of my students to go to college, there are some that won't. I believe that science is the foundation for all concepts of learning. If given real world application in science and lab techniques these kids can be well equipped for college, trade school or employed in any lab. I want to provide that for my students where they are work ready whatever they decide. My classes are heavy in scientific writing, research and laboratory skills. As a Plant and Soil Scientist by trade, coming from college leveled academia and working in industry, I know what employers are looking for. I also understand what will be expected when these now 7th graders get out in the real world. Having those laboratory, analytical and problem solving skills will help them to be marketable to potential employers. Having a full functioning lab and letting students do experimental research that help answer real world problems will give these students the exposure that they need and enhance their education.
