My students are at a variety of levels as developing readers; thus, their needs as readers are best met in small group experiences using texts that are matched to their individual reading levels. Using nonfiction books aligned to their individual reading levels enables me to build on students' natural curiosity about the world and interest in science while simultaneously growing their capacity as readers. These book sets will enable my students to become stronger, more fluent readers as well as provide the catalyst to powerful literary discussions. They will provide students with the opportunities to actively engage with texts and build critical thinking skills about topics of interest to them, creating lifelong readers and learners.
