My colleague and I decided to revamp our 10th-grade curriculum this year to make it more thematically cohesive. One of those decisions involved adding William Golding's classic novel Lord of the Flies to our fall reading slate. It's one of those novels that is great to teach because most students generally find it engaging, the text itself is rich with material to unpack and discuss, and it's one of those novels that make students feel smart because they're learning how to really analyze literature for the very first time. However, we've had a tough time procuring Lord of the Flies texts for our slate of sophomores this year. We're almost to our goal of 160 copies, so please donate as many books as you can by the end of September. I--and my students would be ever so grateful, as Piggy might say.
