Students with visual and tactile sensory needs can have quick access to the items for a short sensory break. Following the break, the students will be able to join the class ready to learn without any behaviors. This will increase the amount of time the students are engaged in learning and prevent major behaviors from occurring. The goal of the sensory room is to teach the students how they feel when they are becoming overstimulated. When they feel overstimulated encouraging the student to take a break will prevent behaviors and allow for the sensory input that is required at that time. Using the sensory room with the students will teach them to recognize when they need a break, be able to take a break and chose an activity that will regulate themselves, and quickly return to work.
