In Kindergarten, students learn how to walk in the halls, play with friends, share, express their emotions, write stories, read books, and essentially how to be a student. Most of these lessons stem from our classroom meeting space. Everyday, we begin with a morning meeting and end the day with closing circle. Because this is my first year teaching, I do not have the materials that most teachers have. The one thing my classroom needs the most is a rug to fit all students. Durning the day we gather multiple times on the rug to lean new lessons together. These range from academic lessons to life lessons, but both are so important for kindergarten students. A classroom rug, is more then woven threads, it is where children become students who love to learn and want to grow.
