I teach at a Title I charter school in West Valley City. We have a large portion of our student body that comes from a relatively low, socio-economic status. This clearly has an impact on their learning. I teach to make a difference in my students' lives. We have a total of 78 students in 5th grade and I teach them only math. I strongly believe is very important for our kids to come out of 5th grade feeling successful. The content taught in 5th-grade math is the kind of math they will use for the rest of their lives as it involves fractions and decimals and both are relatable to money. By using the manipulatives asked in this project, students will be able to understand the relationship between fractions and decimals. The boards will help as well for when we learn about the line plots and coordinate plane as each of them will be able to practice graphing and plotting multiple times on their boards. Therefore helping them understand such concepts better. Many of my students learn by watching and practicing. These resources will allow them to have "hands-on" on such vital standards. Thank you!
