Every Friday, my students come into my classroom knowing that they have a spelling test, but that they also have the chance to read about current events, learn new vocabulary, and compete against each other with a fun class quiz. There is no better way to meet the California Common Core State Aligned Standards and balance this much fun than with these Scholastic magazines. I have been using these magazines as a teaching tool for the last nine years of my teaching career, and I find that my students get a lot of enjoyment and collaboration from learning in this way.
