As a previous math student and now math teacher, I value collaboration in math very strongly. Since I began this school year, I am constantly thinking about how my students are understanding the standards but aren't having the thoughtful discussions, productive arguments, and sharing their ideas that I want to foster in my classroom. In the 8th grade, we primarily study geometric concepts. Students conduct investigations to understand geometric concepts. These whiteboard desks would allow students to take risks, express their ideas visually, and understand that mistakes are OK. Mistakes make our brains grow and 8th grade is the time for students to be thinking creatively with their peers to develop their ability to be effective problem solvers.
