Starting at a young age, students need to gain a better understanding of their own culture and the cultures of others. These books help them experience the complexities of this diverse world. These books will help through Whole Group Reading, in this Remote Learning Setting. It is hard for the majority of them to be at home and not play with their friends from school. I have a very diverse class and these books will help them gain knowledge and understanding of the cultures that are in our class, and in the future. As a Teacher of Color, I want to provide a learning environment where they are not afraid to ask questions and find the answers. I want to provide diverse literature to read when most don't have the money to buy books. I need them to see themselves in books, learn from experiences, learn through different perspectives than just our own.
