The math games and manipulatives that I have selected will provide my students with hands-on experiences with most or all second-grade skills. I will use these math tools during small group instruction with no more than five children at a time. This gives me the opportunity to hone in on the specific needs of each student. The timer will allow me to stay on track and meet with as many students as possible. These activities will also be used as center rotations. Students will rotate through stations that focus on a specific skill which provides them with a spiraled review of all concepts that have been taught. The manipulatives will be used for teacher modeling, guided practice, and independent practice. It is extremely important that I provide a welcoming learning environment that meets the needs of all students. My goal each year is to produce meaningful, differentiated instruction that allows my students to be themselves and excel while doing so. Over the last seven years, I have researched the need for hands-on manipulatives. It is proven to be very imperative in the development of newly introduced skills. CPA (Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract) is a three-step instructional approach that has been found to be highly effective in teaching math concepts. With your support, I will be one step closer to my goal.
