Whiteboards will allow students to show me their responses so that I can check their understanding of the material and decide if more practice is needed. Expo markers will allow for me to present concepts in different colors so that students can see the difference in chemical reactions and other math related concepts. It will also allow me to work problems with the students and have them work problems on the board/whiteboards.
The chemicals and laboratory equipment that are donated will also help students get a hands-on approach to various chemistry concepts. They will be used for laboratory activities in both chemistry I and chemistry II classes. Students enrolled in chemistry II will have a stronger background and will be able to feel more comfortable in a college level chem lab class.
The brightly colored card stock will contain various resources and be very easy for students to locate. Each student will receive an alphabetized list of elements so that they can locate them more easily on the periodic table which will be printed on the back. Every student will also receive a polyatomic ion list and table of the electronegativity values. Lastly, the electronic hole puncher will save me time (and arm strength) and allow students to place important information directly into their binders.
