My students are going to be reading about Malala Yousafzai. Many of them share the same religion, culture, and traditions as she does. Some of them actually come from the same area that she lived in. This is a book that they can connect to on many different levels. The Who is Malala Yousafzai? By Dinah Brown is the perfect version for them to read. Most of them have been in the country for a short period of time and are still learning English. This book allows them to read a chapter book that is modified to fit their abilities. My classroom also has no whiteboard. Instead, it has chalkboards that are full of tape and dents. Therefore, we are limited in what we can do. A whiteboard would help us greatly!
