Ironically, I am in my final two classes of my masters degree in educational leadership. These two classes focus on action research, and I am set on my topic being something I can see the results of firsthand. I am seeking donations to fund flexible seating implementation for this study.
Research has shown that allowing students seat choice engages them in their learning and many times, they focus a lot better. I am hopeful that this change will motivate my students to finish their last year of elementary school strong. Students will be able to choose the type of seat they use every week. Whole group activities will take place in a centered area of the room, while independent activities will take place at the students' choice seats. Students who have to constantly move will have that option with wobble stools or cushions. Students who may be stressed with home life will be able to relax in a seat while completing demanding educational assignments. The possibilities are endless, with both student choice and positive outcomes for academics.
Dependent on results from this semester, I will continue using the items next year either as whole group implementation, or as rewards choices.
