I teach Civics/US Government in the public school system in Louisiana. Many of my students are in a very low income bracket, and therefore always need new materials. I have decided to use my grant money for supplies and Civics projects throughout the year.
Many of these supplies will help my students to learn and engage in the classroom by using hands on materials such as white boards. I will use the clip boards and other materials for Socratic seminars where the students engage in meaningful discussions about American Government. I will use the markers, crayons, pens and pencils to give to the students as many of them cannot supply their own. I will use the hole punch, pencil sharpener and the variety of clips in my room daily. I also need a podium and a chair because for the last 18 years, I have been using school-provided furniture that has been falling apart. These supplies will greatly enhance my classroom, my ability to teach and ensure a safe and active learning environment.
