"How can we define ourselves through storytelling and narrative?" These two texts will help students become better readers and engage them with the storytelling and narrative aspects of the two texts. Each text are relatable to my students as the stories both focus on issues that they encounter within their neighborhoods. Students will be posed with the question, "In a culture where we often encounter other people trying to define us, how do we define ourselves? This will be the focus question for students to reflect on throughout the unit, ending with a project where students will create a narrative of their own with focus on social justice / injustices.
