These books will be used to foster positive behaviors and relationships and to promote soft skills, a growth mindset, and individuality. I specifically chose books that can be used as an example of good citizens for my students. They may or may not have great role models in their lives, but I want them to find a positive connection to a character or author. With these picture books, I can show my students the world outside of our tiny little rural town. The books I've chosen would be used for reading comprehension, dissecting text and author's craft, and truly for pure enjoyment. The more I can read and model for my students, the more they will love reading and find inspiration in the words. I take part in the Classroom Book A Day Challenge and my students hang onto every word. The idea of reading 180+ books in a school year blows my mind with the possibilities of the lessons I can teach my students. My students long for each read aloud. Their ideas, insights, and questions have increased and I want to continue to foster their creative juices!
