Working with clay will benefit my students in so many ways. Using this natural art material supports personalized learning, sensory development, fine motor skills, self esteem, self expression, problem solving skills, discipline and pride in a child. In addition, clay has a well documented therapeutic quality that settles and calms children. Students enjoy the tactile feel and mental stimulation that clay and other 3D materials can provide. Having the opportunity to work with clay can be transformative for a child as an artist. It can take a student that may have previously been uninterested or withdrawn in art, and turn them into a student who is engaged, inspired, and creating consistently. Giving children the opportunity to work with 3-dimensional materials honors our commitment to meet the needs of all students, even those who may learn or process things differently. I aspire to nurture innovative minds and an intrinsic passion to create. My dream is to open as many doors as possible for my students and to expose them to many different ways of learning, in hopes to further inspire each student’s desire to learn and create.
