I want my students to read and to read a lot. I want them to fall in love with the written word and to fill their minds with great stories. We will spend the year studying books in book clubs and in small group instruction. Books are the magic that create lifelong learners. The best way for students to increase fluency and comprehension is to read. Half of my students are emergent bilingual students who need daily access to the English language to build their skills. This grant will give us the tools we need to get books in their hands every day of the school year. Do you remember the best book you read growing up? Kids read less and less, and my students right now can't name their favorite book. It is time to change that!
