Science is my subject of choice for instruction because it is the real world and how things operate. I teach physics, chemistry, and human anatomy, but the books are not my thing. We do a lot of hands-on and group work. My students learn by sight and feel, so crafting things and planning lessons that are interactive and rigorous makes my day and theirs. The more we do and display, the deeper the learning gets and the connection to understanding is displayed as we assess weekly. My principal always asks how I keep them engaged, and my answer is simple as we do the work hands-on. The days of just sitting and writing are far beyond us so we must tap into creating lessons that are mentally stimulating.
