These materials will be used to help the band stay on beat in our rehearsals. I would like to outfit the band with a speaker that is raised above the students in the back of our classroom so that students are able to listen back to the metronome in rehearsals. This simulates listening back to the percussion, and trains the students' brains to automatically listen back when we start to take the metronome away before performances. Since the pandemic, we have struggled to play together as a group and on beat after spending so much time at home doing band through zoom. Using a metronome in rehearsals is standard practice in the band world, and I would like to teach our students how to take full advantage of using this item effectively. A band that has an unsteady beat is not an effective band. It is like having a group without a leader. We need a metronome that will not fail in keeping a steady beat whenever we want, and a speaker to project the sound from the back of the room for the most productive rehearsals.
