Students read and discuss social issues, themes, and literary aspects of the novels in book clubs while making connections through their individual and collective windows, doors, and mirrors. While we currently have good book club choices, they are too limited in the genre. Greater choice and variety, to supplement the current primarily realistic fiction choices, will allow students more flexibility and choice, making the reading and thinking more meaningful. When given the choice to purchase some of these titles on their own, some students do, but others do not have the resources or support to choose these popular novels. I am hoping this project will help them.
