Reading has always felt like torture for my kids. They do it only to pass tests. They have never known the pleasure of escaping into the world of a new book. They have rarely travelled to another country or universe by jumping into the pages of a cleverly-written novel. I want to transform my students' attitudes toward reading by opening their world to high quality, interesting novels. I want to widen their perspectives and open the world to them. I believe that it just takes one "good" book to create a lifelong reader. Once my kids get hooked on reading, their skills and confidence levels will skyrocket. The gift of books and reading is life-changing for my precious students.
