I just started my first year teaching and have spent much of my own money trying to provide new and updated supplies for my students. One thing we are lacking is a nice, new classroom library. Studies show that students who read 20 minutes a day at home are likely to score 90% better on standardized test than their peers. I want to give students the opportunity to read at school and at home. In the rural community that we live we have limited resources and low income families who cannot afford to purchase new books. I would also love to start an at-home reading program with our new books to encourage family bonding and love for reading.
