We come to the floor for several lessons each day. We have Calendar Math in which the students need to be close to the calendar and be able to stand and interact as needed. Often, the students lead this part of the class and each of them having their own spot to sit will reduce conflict and still allow everyone a view of the board. We also sit together to read. I often do shared reading and need to be able to check on each student as we read a story, and it is easier for me to skim the class when they are all gathered close. This alphabet carpet will be large enough to give each student their own space, while also providing them with boundaries so they can learn to be good neighbors while working.
