The goal of having these new items is to practice responsive classroom, an evidence-based approach that focuses on the whole child by promoting both strong academics and social-emotional learning. Responsive classroom focuses on building student success through engaging academics, a strong classroom community, and developmental awareness. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning while building self-control and self-regulation. The goal of this project is to create a classroom where students have the chance to take responsibility for their learning by having access to different seating choices. Using the various cushions, students will be able to utilize a Take a Break space, where they can go to recognize and regulate their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors to maintain a successful working block. The bungee chairs will provide an additional spot for students to work beyond a typical desk and chair. By providing options for students to find a comfortable spot, they will be able to focus and take responsibility for their learning to create an ideal working space that will encourage success.
