One of the best ways to get students excited about learning history is through amazing visuals, and with a large number of English language learners in my 8th grade social studies classroom, visuals are a necessity! The Smithsonian Visual Encyclopedias will provide students with a detailed description of events in our history and provide them with pictures to help process and understand what they read. Students participate in simulations and many collaborative projects, and the books will be a resource for learning background information to base these activities off of. With these encyclopedias, learning American history will be more enjoyable and accessible for my students.
